Ocean City's mayor calls for more e-bike safety

An e-bike rider is passed by Ocean City Police Department bike patrol officers on the Boardwalk.

When Ocean City’s own mayor, Jay Gillian, narrowly missed striking two e-bike riders with his vehicle, he said it was only the “grace of God” that saved him from a potential tragedy. The bike riders were riding on the wrong side of the roadway and ignored a red stop light.

The incident has inspired the mayor to improve e-bike regulations in and around the community. For more on the initiative, visit https://ocnjdaily.com/news/2025/aug/04/ocean-citys-mayor-calls-for-more-e-bike-safety/.
